This picture is of Eachan leaving the battlefield where his friend died.

Eachan, or "little horse", is a powerful little Norwegian Fjord that hails from 800 A.D. in Viking lands. Eachan spent 8 years of his life as a Viking warhorse. He had many riders, but the only one he respected and liked was Erik, a farmboy who rode Eachan into battle for 6 years. At a huge battle in Denmark, the two of them rode into battle against a legion of Roman troops. Erik was killed by the Roman general, but the Vikings won the battle and drove the Romans back. They never returned to Viking lands again.

After the battle, Eachan stayed by Erik's cold body out of grief. A passing Viking warrior pitied the horse and took his tack off before shooing him away. Eachan eventually left, and formed his own band of mares.

This is part of my 'Horses in History' project, which will all be horses that come from different parts of our Earth's history (for example, Medieval Era, Ancient Rome, Civil War, etc.).
